We Craft
In 2016, we woke up like everyone else on the day after the election…
we rubbed our eyes and said to ourselves, “Well, shit.”
Aside from the real grief, we were also just full of guilt. How did we let things get this far? Why didn’t we do more? Why didn’t we try harder? Ok so we are here today, but how do we change? How do we fix things? How do we stop this? We just didn’t know dude, we were lost.
We grew up thinking that politics had some sort of pay wall, right? Like there were educational or networking or financial barriers to real political participation. On the day after the election we were looking into going back to college for policy degrees. We just wanted to get a seat at the table and would do anything to make that happen.
Like hundreds of thousands of other people in the country, we found ourselves in some of those really early activist Facebook groups. The sense of emergency was palpable. People from all over the country who never had participated in real activism were organizing, fast and furious.
We developed a customized communication platform for grassroots networks. During development we spoke to hundreds of activists about their needs, organizing pain points, relationships with their local Democrats, administrative, HR, and organizational obstacles. We wrote a guide for how to run a grassroots organization and helped to build a national network of thousands of grassroots leaders that is still active today.
From all of this work, we were flown to LA by the Center For American Progress to participate in a three day long think tank with other community organizers. It was really interesting but what we ultimately took away from it is this: the only way to really change things is to run for local office or support someone who is running for local office. The Republicans really understand this. They know that the way you shape the political culture in America is by systematically taking over, from every local office, up.

And so that’s what we did and that’s what we continue to do.
We have, in the last four years, worked with candidates, campaign staff, PACs, the Democrat apparatus, caucuses, and activists.
In doing so, we realized that we already had everything that we needed to help local progressives run for office.
Running for office is essentially selling a product, the candidate. All of the sales, marketing, and business systems that we have honed and used throughout the years translated so efficiently here. A political campaign IS ultimately a marketing campaign.
Over the years we have worked in every type of sales, marketing, training and management and we mean everything from door to door to cold calling to creating and running a rental division and training at a real estate brokerage, to catering and event management and waiting tables and managing restaurants to small business consulting, branding, marketing and web development to lead generation to international business to business sales and account management.
Every single job we ever took, every single system we ever used, everything all together was everything that you need to run a campaign.
There was no secret. There was no barrier. There was nothing to learn but how to adapt already proven methods to this specific set of circumstances.
In our first year in politics, we started building websites for candidates and donated over $30,000 worth of marketing, consulting, sites and hosting
Then we went on to working directly inside campaigns as treasurers, campaign managers, and marketing experts. Things took off fast, and people noticed.
Soon, we realized we had more “Can I pick your brain?” requests from other candidates and campaign managers than we knew what to do with, so we started coaching and teaching the marketing strategies we’d developed and used in all of our businesses.
Aaaaand when we realized we were repeating ourselves, client after client, we ditched the 1:1 model, started compiling everything we knew into online courses and products, and started impacting even more candidates each election cycle.
